Natural hair, black hair, and afro-textured hair are terms used to refer to the texture of black Afrikan hair. Black Afrikan hair that has not been altered chemically by perming, relaxing, straightening, bleaching or coloring is considered as natural hair.
Not all people of Afrikan descent have naturally afro-textured hair, though the overwhelming majority do. The tightly coiled Afro-hair is a ubiquitous trait. Adjectives such as “hard”, “kinky”, “nappy”, or “woolly” are also used to describe natural hair. This hair is typically tightly coiled and soft to the touch.
Many of us may have considered getting natural hairstyles but wondered if it was going to be an easy job. And then there are many of us who feel alienated from our natural coils having little clue what to do with them. Going natural with your hairstyles is a remarkable and astounding journey.
The ingrained thinking has been that crimped hair is hard to groom. Learning to deal with naturally crimped hair is a challenge, especially when you have been straightening your tresses for long. After decades of straightening most of us have forgotten what the real texture of our hair is. So it might take a while to learn to manage and style your natural hair.
